6th March 2012

Members of the Burton Judokwai entertained the mayor, Councillor Patricia Ackroyd, on Tuesday 6th March at the Broadway Street Premises. More than twenty Judoka, Whose ages range from 7-18 years old, demonstrated a warm up routine together with a variety of groundwork and standing techniques. The Mayor was given an overview of how throwing skills are developed from beginner to advanced level and how discipline and mutual respect is practised in all aspects of the session. She was impressed with the demonstration, particularly with the energy and enthusiasm of the youngsters and commented on the wonderful facilities the club has to offer.
The mayor was then treated to an aikido demonstration showing numerous empty handed techniques followed by defence techniques to simulated knife attacks.  These were shown because of the awareness of the increase in knife related incidents as recently reported in the Burton Mail on the 23rd of February.
The Mayor was presented with a bouquet of flowers by one of the junior girls.
